And I must say the first three books of this series has been a very enjoyable read. The author, Nicholas Sansbury Smith, does the usual and makes the heroes nearly impregnable, but he also does an excellent job in describing the secondary and even tertiary characters with the elegance of a seasoned author. I am|From Library Journal|This is the first full-length biography of one of the key Union naval commanders during the Civil War. It is a fine one. Lee's career spanned 46 years, and this well-researched book not only portrays a principled, dedicated blue-water sailor
